We all hit roadblocks at work, and they come in many forms. I’ve experienced many in my years. Sometimes the roadblocks are small; maybe you can’t find the right words to articulate an e-mail. Other times, they’re larger, like not getting that raise you’ve been asking for for months.

No matter how big or how small the obstacle you’re facing, learning how to use self-talk with positive affirmations can ease the stress, help calm your nerves, and give you the motivation to keep going.

Check out these 10 affirmations to power through any professional roadblock you face.

1 of

To Change Your Prespective

When things seem overwhelming, and tasks are piling up on your plate, remember that everything is a challenge. And with challenge comes the opportunity to rise above, to succeed, and to accomplish.

When you flip your perspective from being negative, such as viewing something as a "problem," and turn it into something positive like a "challenge," you can find the motivation and the drive you need to keep on trucking.

2 of

To Encourage Yourself

Sometimes it seems easier to focus on our weaknesses instead of our strengths and get caught up in the pattern of negative self-talk. When you find this happening, remind yourself that you are doing all you can with what you have.

If you find yourself struggling with a task, take a step back and remember that you are trying. Remember that when you stop trying you fail, and as long as you keep working you are one step closer to success.

3 of

To Boost Your Self-Esteem

If you're putting everything you have into your job day after day, excelling at what you do and exceeding expectations, there comes the point when you deserve a raise. We've all heard, "There's just not enough budget right now" or "Let's see what happens next quarter." There's nothing more discouraging.

But you know your worth. It's hard to know when it's time to leave a job, but sometimes you have to take the step and move on. Instead of feeling stuck, acknowledge that to yourself and take action.

4 of

To Validate Your Ideas

Do you sometimes refrain from speaking in company meetings because you're afraid of what others might think? Do you think your ideas aren't as good as those around you? It's time to overcome that roadblock.

Your ideas, your thoughts, and your opinions are just as valid and meaningful as those around you. Different voices bring different perspectives to the table and what you have to say matters. No idea is too small.

5 of

To Focus on Solutions

Have you been staring at a project for hours, and you feel like you've hit a wall? Maybe you've run out of ideas, you're not feeling the creativity flowing, and you're getting frustrated. We've all been there.

Prompt yourself to look at the problem from a different angle. Place yourself in someone else's shoes. Right now, you're looking at the project as you. Look at it as if you were the client or a coworker working in a different department. What does it look like through their eyes? You may find the solution.

6 of

To Ask for Help

Maybe you're working with new software that you don't understand, or taking over a task from a coworker for the first time. You give it your best, you do all you can, and you know you're still not getting it quite right.

Remind yourself that it's okay and that you are part of a team for a reason. It's okay to ask for help when you need it. It's a learning experience from which you will grow and emerge with new skills.

7 of

To Take a Step Back

It's true. Sometimes the best thing to do is to take a break, walk away from the problem, and re-approach the situation feeling a little more refreshed. Whether you get up and take a walk, make yourself a warm cup of coffee, or switch gears to another project for a little while, it can help you overcome a mental block.

Our minds become hyper-focused on problems, which can cloud our thinking and stop the ideas from flowing. It's okay to take a step back, focus your efforts on something else, and come back later.

8 of

To Forgive Yourself

When you're focusing on being the very best at your role within the company or succeeding as a solopreneur, it's easy to set tunnel vision on perfection.

But, we all make mistakes. Whether you forgot a deadline or didn't fully read an email before responding, it happens to all of us. It's important to remember that one mistake does not define who you are in your career.

9 of

To Motivate You

Have you been working up the courage to ask for a raise or go to your boss with a problem, but fear takes over when it's time to go? We all freeze from time to time, and anxiety sets in. Or, maybe a huge project just landed on your desk, and you're unsure of how to tackle it.

Face things head-on. Tell yourself that you can do this. You have the strength within you to face any problem. To solve a problem, you have to address it directly. Remind yourself you've got this.

10 of

To Start Over

Shake off whatever happened yesterday. Whether you had an uncomfortable confrontation with a coworker, spent the day re-doing a project that didn't come out correctly the first time, or just weren't on your A-game.

Today, none of that matters. It's a brand new day full of opportunities to learn, grow, and to be better than ever before. And tomorrow will be the same. The goal is to make each day better than the last. Don't let the past bring you down.
