Did you know that dogs need probiotics, just like people?
Probiotics have many benefits for your dog’s health, including treatment for constipation and diarrhea, calming the bowel and the stomach, preventing or helping with allergies, support for the immune system, urinary infection prevention, weight regulation and more. There are even some “people” probiotics that your dog can safely have.
Lactobacillus
The lactobacillus probiotics help your dog with digestion and helping the body to absorb more nutrients from food. It can help and prevent diarrhea and digestive problems, as well.
Bifidobacterium
Bifidobacterium probiotics support your dog’s immune system. They’re especially recommended for older dogs with weakened immune systems or to help your dog recover when he gets sick. Your dog doesn’t require probiotic yogurts to receive a shot of probiotics. Two other things will provide your dog with the necessary conditions for gut health: Kefir and raw goat milk.
Regular Kefir or even better, made with goat milk, is a perfect probiotic boost for your dog. You can find it at the local market but look for the ones without added sugars.
Raw goat milk is another great probiotic supplement for your dog. Goat milk contains many natural probiotics and very little lactose. That means it won’t upset your dog’s digestion and will give the necessary probiotic aid to your dog.
Here are three simple, healthy recipes for 4-ingredient homemade probiotic dog treats.
