With all the different yoga styles and all the benefits that yoga brings. It’s not surprising that men are one of the fastest-growing segments of the population to unroll their mats. Yet, women still make up the majority of U.S. yoga practitioners. Maybe that’s because so many men still think they won’t get a good workout from yoga, even though the toughest athletes are wiped out from their first yoga class.

Some men think they aren’t flexible enough to do yoga, although that is the most important reason to do yoga. Or they consider themselves gym people, not yoga people.

Well, I’m here to say to all men, don’t fear yoga. There are tons of benefits, not the least of which is breathing better, feeling better, and performing better. Still not convinced? Check out all these GR8 benefits of yoga for men.

1) Prevents Injury and Improves Other Workouts

Yoga increases strength, flexibility, and stamina, something every man needs no matter what sport or exercise they do. Yoga especially strengthens your core muscles, and the core muscles help in every activity, including weightlifting, running, swimming, biking, and more. Also, a strong core helps prevent injury.

2) Relieves Chronic Back Pain

If you suffer from back pain, you need to be doing yoga. And it doesn’t have to be the most strenuous kind. Even gentle yoga can help. This is especially good for men who sit all day at work. Yoga helps improve your posture, which takes some of the strain off your neck, shoulders, and back. And better posture helps prevent future aches and pains.

3) Helps You Sleep Better and Reduces Stress

Although a lot of people take up yoga for the physical benefits, they often stay for all the GR8 benefits of the mind. Yoga can help with mild depression, anxiety, and sleeplessness. Many yoga poses help people get their best night’s sleep and help with stress relief.

4) Promotes Weight Loss and Better Health

If you think that yoga isn’t a full-body workout, then you haven’t done enough yoga. Whether you’re just beginning to learn the basics of yoga or ready for full-on power yoga, you’ll find that yoga works every inch of your body and mind. Also, science suggests that yoga is heart-healthy, boosts your immune system, and reduce blood pressure. As a dedicated yogi, I was aware of this, but it’s nice to know there’s research to prove it.

5) Improves Sexual Performance and Increases Libido

A 2010 study showed that yoga could improve all areas of sexual function in men. The breathing techniques and focus learned in yoga can help men better harness their sexual energy and lead to enhanced sexual performance and increased libido.

If you are still skeptical about the GR8 benefits of yoga for men, consider giving it a go. After a few short weeks of regular yoga practice, and you may be surprised by how much more stamina you have and how strong you feel. You’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain by giving it a try.
