Known for strengthening joints and muscles, can yoga help with arthritis pain? Arthritis is a medical condition that affects the joints. It is associated with a variety of symptoms, such as stiffness, pain, and a lack of range of motion. Patients who suffer often struggle with mobility issues.

A chronic condition, arthritis cannot be cured, only managed. Doctors’ focus is generally centered on addressing the pain patients experience to improve their quality of life. Can yoga help?

Can Yoga Help with Arthritis Pain?

We want to hear from you. If you’ve struggled with arthritis, let us know your thoughts on using yoga for pain management.

What Experts Are Saying

Studies say yes, patients with osteoarthritis may see an improvement in symptoms if they stick to a gentle, regular yoga routine. Patients who participated in the study reported lower levels of pain after just eight weeks, as well as improvements in balance, flexibility, and reduced stress.

The Arthritis Foundation backs these claims. The foundation found the same results; in just eight weeks, those who participated in a trial reported the same improvements. This is big news for individuals who are living in pain.

Many patients are seeking alternative, holistic remedies as opposed to traditional pharmaceutical solutions for pain. Yoga seems to be the perfect addition to arthritic management.

Yoga Routines for Arthritis

Not all yoga routines are created equal, as any seasoned yogi will tell you. Bikram yoga, for example, is an intense routine in rooms that often top 100 degrees. Meanwhile, Yin Yoga is a gentle routine that’s focused on gentle stretching and decompression.

For those who have arthritis, it’s best to stick with gentle routines that are doctor-approved. Intense practices can lead to injury. Most doctors will recommend modified yoga poses for patients with arthritis.
