When it comes to skincare must-haves, nothing is more of a staple than clay masks. Mud-masking has been around for centuries, and in my eyes, it was probably our first experience with skincare. Rich in vitamins and minerals, these good-for-you gifts from the earth are the most indulgent thing you can slather on your face. Not to mention, they’re perhaps the only product you can see results immediately after using.

Clay masks are pretty amazing. As I’m asking around and researching the best clay masks out there, I realized that I’ve probably tried every single one of these clay masks – I might be a clay mask hoarder without realizing it. But all jokes aside, I went ahead and compiled a list of the all-time best clay masks you must try to believe.

1. Aztec Secret Indian Healing

Best for: beauty buyers on a budget.

It’s impossible to find another clay mask with such a cult-following, this mask has over six thousand reviews on Amazon. Made from bentonite clay, the Aztec Secret clay is perfect for those looking to deeply detox their pores. While the recipe calls for it to be mixed with water, I prefer using it with apple cider vinegar for an extra bump.

2. L’Oréal Paris Pure-Clay Mask

Best for: drugstore beauty shoppers.

While new to the clay mask world, this mask by L’Oréal has already captured beauty lovers’ attention – including the one writing this roundup. For less than $10, you get a three-mix clay mask with kaolin, Moroccan lava clay, and charcoal. This mask is great to use whenever you feel your skin is looking kind of dirty and a cleanser isn’t cutting it for you. Your skin will feel instantly smoother, cleaner, and look brighter as well. I try to use this mask at least once a week whenever I go through my insane 10-step routine.

3. Ahava Purifying Dead Sea Mineral Mud Mask

Best for: beauty lovers on-the-go.

You can get the full-size of this sea mineral mud mask, but the travel size is perfect for vacations. Unclog your pores after spending hours in the airport with this gentle detoxing mask. Dead sea mud and white clay come together to gently unclog your pores and soothe your skin. It’s perfect for everyone with dry, sensitive skin.

4. Origins Original Skin Retexturizing Mask

Best for: sensitive skin types.

Sensitive skin types don’t have to shy away from all the clay mask fun with this formula. Pink clay combines with red and white clay, and it’s gentle enough for sensitive skin. This one comes in a silky-smooth micro powder that provides gentle exfoliation without dragging on the skin. It’s infused with jojoba beads and natural minerals to leave your skin as glowy as its beautiful millennial pink shade.

5. GlamGlow SuperMud Clearing Treatment

Best for: treating large pores.

When this face mask hit the shelves back in 2011, it was an absolute sensation with every beauty blogger (including me) running to the closest store to grab it. Targeting blemishes, razor bumps, redness, scars, and even ingrown hair, this is the motherload of clay masks.

6. Charlotte Tilbury Goddess Skin Clay Mask

Best for: dull skin types.

Here’s my go-to clay mask for winter and whenever my skin has fallen down the dull rabbit hole. With Spanish clay, a blend of almond and rosehip oil, and powerful peptides, you can plump, nourish, and detoxify your skin. Get rid of the dead skin cells causing your dull skin with this gentle clay mask to reveal baby-smooth skin.

7. Herbivore Botanicals Pink Clay Facial Mask

Best for: fighting signs of aging.

Everyone loves pink clay because of its versatility, as it can be used by basically all skin types without causing irritation. This blend includes rosehip oil, which is a powerful anti-ager to make sure you start banishing fine lines from the get-go. Silica and iron oxide also help improve your skin’s elasticity. All you want from a clay face mask.

8. Glossier Mega Greens Galaxy Pack Mask

Best for: detoxifying your pores.

Environmental elements, makeup, a poor skin care routine, all of that adds up and starts clogging our pores if we don’t take all that dirt out. Glossier’s option to help you do that is this white clay mask that also blends in phytonutrients and antioxidants to protect your skin against damage. Not to mention, it has avocado and aloe oil to hydrate and prevent your skin from drying out, which is a common fear among clay mask users.

9. Boscia Charcoal Pore Pudding Intensive Wash-off Treatment

Best for: clogged pores.

Activated charcoal had its moment in the beauty world, and those who swear by its detoxifying properties still use it today. This clay mask blends both white and black charcoal to deliver ultra-detoxifying benefits that help smooth out your complexion, minimize pore appearance, and prevent breakouts. What else can you ask for?

10. bareMinerals Dirty Detox Skin Glowing and Refining Mud Mask

Best for: dark spots.

Why would you settle for one type of clay when you can reap the benefits of four? With the Dirty Detox Mask by bareMinerals, you get four different mineral-rich clays, charcoal, and papaya enzyme extracts to leave your skin luminous, fresh, and squeaky clean. The soothing eucalyptus scent will transport you to the most luxurious spa on earth, all you need is to set the bubble bath, and you have an at-home spa day.

11. Caudalie Instant Detox Mask

Best for: blackheads.

I’m a big fan of Caudalie products for their effectiveness and sensitivity. This clay mask features brightening papaya enzyme extract and black coal to minimize pores and get rid of those pesky blackheads by your nose. Thanks to the papaya extract, this clay mask is suitable for all skin types as it’s a lighter alternative to traditional skin acids.

12. Olay Pore Detox Black Charcoal Clay Face Mask Stick

Best for: traveling.

Alright, this is what I love to see beauty brands do – innovate. Forget about struggling with TSA trying to pass your 1-pound clay mask, Olay came up with a clay mask on a stick that’s 100% TSA-approved. A blend of charcoal and white clay are perfectly compacted on this mask stick to zap excess oil, gently exfoliate dead skin, and minimize pore appearance. You can even use this face mask on the plane! All you need is to apply the mask on clean, dry skin and leave it on for ten minutes. Rinse the product with water and voila!

13. Borghese Fango Active Mud Mask

Best for: all-body detox.

This was my first product in the world of clay masks. My mother used to buy this product religiously and she would keep it hidden in her closet. I can clearly remember, sneaking into her closet to grab a few dabs of this exotic clay mask that even comes with a natural sponge for when you use it as a body mask. A blend of bentonite clay, avocado oil, and hyaluronic acid, this mud mask is a gift from the earth itself. I used to call it a “volcanic face mask” to make things more exciting for myself. The best clay mask to balance oil production and gently exfoliate at the same time.

14. Dr. Barbara Sturm Face Mask

Best for: splurging.

While spending over $100 on a face mask is not something you’d do every month, sometimes a skincare splurge can be explained. Dr. Barbara Sturm is an aesthetic medicine specialist and a favorite aesthetician of many celebrities, including the Kardashians. Her skincare line, which hit shelves last year, is already a luxury skincare favorite. This clay mask blends aloe vera, vitamin E, and chamomile with kaolin clay for a deep-cleansing and super hydrating face mask. Worth the price tag, if you ask me.

15. Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Mask

Best for: clogged pores and acne.

Sourced from the Amazon river, Amazonian white clay is the star of this face mask. A creamy and light clay mask that dives into your pores to get all the gunk out. No more oil, no more dead skin cells, and no dry skin. While everyone can use this clay mask, it’s the ultimate product for acne-prone skin, since it gets rid of every impurity you can think of. Because this mask also features aloe, there’s no need to worry about drying out your skin.
