Here’s the thing, we cannot pretend our brains will stay highly focused on every single task we do throughout the day. Sometimes, we let time slip through our hands with the pretext that our brains need to rest. But, efficiently managing our time is critical for every aspect of our lives. Having poor time management can hurt you in the long run.

Time Management 101

In a nutshell, time management is the process you use to manage your time and organize your work or tasks to do per day, week, month, and even year. Time management is how you choose to allocate the 24 hours you’re given on a specific day.

Causes of Poor Time Management

Some people develop GR8 time management skills, which allows them to work, study, have a lifestyle, and so on. Enter the amazing people in our world like Bill Gates and Beyoncé, who apparently can do anything they want. Others, fall through the cracks of developing poor time management mostly due to:

  • Procrastination
  • Disorganization
  • Being reactive rather than proactive
  • Absentmindedness
  • Not focusing on priorities
  • Having low energy or depression
  • Not being good delegators
  • Failing to communicate your vision or plan with others

Disadvantages of Having Poor Time Management

Most people think that poor time management only leads to overdue tasks. While that’s a big part of it, poor time management skills can affect other areas of your life as well. Someone with no sense of time can easily experience these difficulties:

  • Can’t say no
  • Mismanagement of resources
  • Become more inactive
  • Fall under the pressure of chronic stress
  • Have no time for recreation
