No matter if you are indoors or outdoors, air quality can have a huge impact on your health. While we are all aware that poor outdoor air quality can lead to health issues, we don’t always think about the effects of the air quality in our own homes. Making your own essential oils blend to help clean the air in your home is a GR8 way to breathe easier.

Indoor Air Can Be Dangerous to Your Health

If you are acne-prone or suffer from allergies, you could be reacting to indoor air pollutants such as cigarette smoke, mold spores, chemicals found in cleaning products, and more. Our houses are more tightly sealed than ever, and we often have more toxins inside them. Indoor toxins can come from:

  • Carpeting
  • Personal care products
  • Home care products
  • Gas appliances
  • Paint
  • Furniture
  • Toxins brought in on clothes and shoes

These are just a few of the ways toxins can come into your home. There are many ways to keep the air in your home cleaner, such as bringing in plants to improve the air quality or using an air filter. Having anti-pollution drops you can make out of essential oils is another GR8 way to increase the breathability of your indoor air.

The Science behind Essential Oils That Can Purify the Air in Your Home

In addition to being used in natural beauty products and to set the mood in a meditation space, essential oils can also be effective at cleaning and freshening the air. Essential oils are great for deodorizing, purifying, and cleaning the air in your home. While they may not replace your heavy-duty HEPA air filter, they have antifungal and antimicrobial properties that can be used to clean your home’s air.

Many essential oils, such as tea tree oil, have antibacterial properties and can be used in homemade household cleaners or applied to your skin to treat small cuts. Tea tree and eucalyptus essential oils help open your lungs and have been clinically proven to kill the airborne flu virus. And lemongrass essential oil has been shown to battle bacteria in the air. These oils can also be used to reduce airborne bacteria. In addition, essential oils like rosemary and eucalyptus can reduce the number of dust mites in your home.

Most people associate essential oils with aromatherapy and the many health benefits ascribed to it. Whether or not you think aromatherapy works, using a blend of essential oils like the ones below can help clean your home’s air.

Essential Oils Blend to Clean the Air in Your Home

  • 90 drops of lemongrass oil
  • 40 drop of tea tree oil
  • 65 drops of rosemary oil
  • 40 drops of lavender oil
  • 11 drops of eucalyptus oil

Combine the oils in an empty 15 ml bottle.

Mix with water in a spray bottle or add a few drops to a diffuser.

Do You Need to Clean the Air in Your Home?

If you are not sure whether or not the air in your home is free from mold, dust mites, fungus, and more, you may want to consider whether or not you need an air quality monitor. And since the average person spends about 90% of their life indoors, knowing how often to change your air filters is a must. Once you’ve checked these things and you still think the air inside your house could be cleaner, try diffusing anti-pollution drops throughout your home.
