Essential, huh? These oils must have quite the capabilities if they’re attached to an adjective that tells us we NEED them. If you’re anything like me, the first introduction to these oils may have had you questioning: essential for what, exactly?

The Essence of Essentials

Well, it turns out the “essential” is about them being of “essence” or concentration of aromatic plants. They are botanical and herbal extracts with an array of functions. The use of essential oils dates back pretty far, like B.C. far.

Egyptians began using them for medicinal purposes, beauty, spiritual growth, and in any other aspect, they found useful. Ancient use was also reported in India, Rome, Greece, as well as China. Even the Bible references twelve types of oils.

The Modern Essential Oils

Zooming back out to today, essential oils are commonly associated as a staple of aromatherapy, but their reported uses are much more. As far as natural and holistic medicine go, many believe that these oils can help to remedy migraines, anxiety, dementia, stress, and other ailments.

Particular oils are said to have anti-bacterial effects. There isn’t much research validating essential oils as an alternative to pharmaceuticals, but many do swear by their effects.

So, whether used for spiritual connection, to combat an ailment of sorts, or solely for aromatic pleasure. Do you agree that oils work?

Poll in and let us know.
