Those who suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) experience feelings of discomfort in their abdomen, and unpleasant symptoms such as bloating, constipation, cramping, and overall digestive pain. IBS affects about 45 million people in the US. It arises from issues in the gastrointestinal tract, or when there is an imbalance in the gut. Unfortunately, there is no medical test to confirm a diagnosis.

Treating it requires a process of elimination and trial and error. Symptoms may occur at any point in life, as well as return after having been previously resolved. It is more common in women, but present in men as well. Thankfully, some remedies may be of assistance for those searching for quick and natural relief.

CBD Oil 

CBD may interact with receptors in the gastrointestinal tract, enabling the user to feel more relaxed, have fewer spasms, and overall less inflammation in the gut. Consult with your doctor to see if CBD oil might be the right option for you.

Fiber 

Supplementing fiber into your diet is effective for improving symptoms of IBS. Soluble fiber adds bulk to stool, allowing for the digestive tract to cleanse and clear. Foods like oats, apples, and whole grains are a good source.

Probiotics 

A portion of people who suffer from IBS have abnormal gut flora, meaning there is an imbalance in the bacteria in their digestive tract. They have been studied and determined to be of benefit for helping to repopulate beneficial, balancing bacteria for the gut. Take them in supplement form or eat them

However, be sure to avoid certain probiotics like yogurt as they can alternatively be worse for IBS sufferers. Aim for probiotic foods like kefir that can be made with nut milk as opposed to dairy may be worth considering. Be sure to consult with your physician.

Omega-3 

A lack of omega-3 might be the source of IBS-related abdominal pain. Supplementing omega-3 into your diet may help to reduce inflammation and relieve the severity of symptoms. Foods rich in omega-3 include mackerel, salmon, anchovies, and sardines to name a few.

Peppermint Oil 

Peppermint oil helps to calm the intestines by relaxing the muscles. Studies show that temporary relief of symptoms may be possible with peppermint oil. Take in minimal dosage.
