Sure, a green juice might make us feel good, but sometimes we need our classic favorites to get us through. Then there are the kids. Did you know that nutrition plays a significant role in child brain development and can even affect academic performance? Getting your kids to eat healthier foods isn’t always easy, but it just got easier.

Chances are, green juice isn’t going over well with the kids. Unless you freeze it, throw some fruit in there, and call it a sherbet. See what I did there? In all honesty, though, these adaptations give the originals a run for their money though no one needs to know these aren’t the originals.

Nut Butter and Jam Sandwich

PB&J is an all-time classic and lunchtime favorite. Send the kids to school with a healthy version. Go for a whole grain bread, your choice of jam or preserves, and a healthy nut spread such as cashew, almond, or peanut butter.

Cauliflower Pizza

Pizza is an irreplaceable favorite, but the crust? It can definitely be made of cauliflower. Who says pizza isn't a veggie? Incorporate whatever toppings you please, and your kids might not even notice the difference.

Protein Mac N' Cheese

Giving up mac n' cheese would be severe, and no one is asking for that. Maintain, dare I say enhance, your standard mac n' cheese by packing it with protein. This recipe calls for a chickpea rotini, aka protein pasta. Spinach, broccoli, and cheese have never looked (and tasted) so good.

Hemp Hearts Baked Chicken Nuggets

Absolutely forget the drive-through. These chicken nuggets don't make it very hard to. Keep the chicken lean if you please, and give your kids all the benefits of hemp without them realizing it. Trade breadcrumbs for an almond meal. You've got yourself a nutritious chicken nugget frenzy.

Sweet Potato Fries

Fries are literally everyone's favorite (not to mention they go pretty well with the previous three dishes). Give them a healthy update by slicing up and baking some sweet potatoes instead. A mild sweetness is a fair trade-off for some extra grease and white starch, don't you think?

Healthy Turkey Meatballs

Beef and breadcrumbs? I don't think so. Turkey is the lean move. Bake these and pair with zucchini noodles for an Italian twist.

Clean-Dirty Pudding Cups

For Dessert? We know sweets are the best kind of dirty, and boy do kids like to make a mess. Keep dirt and their diets under control with these dirty but clean pudding cups. Dutch cocoa, coconut milk, and vegan gummy worms, anyone?
