Whenever my sister visits, we get manicures together, it’s become our thing. A manicure can be a special treat a few times a year, or a part of your regular self-care routine (guilty). Take the quiz to see how often you should get a manicure, then read more below.
How Often Should You Get a Manicure?
Many factors determine how often you should get a manicure. Natural nails usually need less maintenance than artificial ones, but that is just one of the determining factors. Other factors include how quickly your nails grow and your daily activities.
If you prefer darker polish colors, as I do, you may need more touch-ups, since when these colors chip it is much more noticeable. I keep bottles of my favorite polish colors in my nail care kit so I can touch them up between manicures. Light colors tend to last longer between visits to the salon. No matter the color, applying a protective topcoat every few days can make your manicure last longer.
Do Length and Shape Make a Difference?
If you like your nails long, regular manicures will help keep them filed and shaped. You can file them at home between manicures to extend the time between visits to the salon.
The shape can also make a difference in how often you need to visit the salon. Oval nails are prone to breakage, while square and squoval (square/oval) nails are one of the strongest shapes. If you prefer a shape that makes nails weaker, such as oval or pointy, they’ll need to be shaped every two weeks-ish.
What about Nail Designs and Artificial Nails?
These days, nail designs, acrylic tips, and gel nails are gaining in popularity. These types of manicures need more maintenance than natural nails. Intricate designs chip more easily, tips may loosen, and gel nails need touch-ups as your fingernails grow.
Hey, no one said keeping your nails beautiful was easy, but in my opinion, totally worth it.
