It’s no secret that feeling stressed can affect our overall health. Yet, the majority of us are pretty darn stressed anyway.
Our Stress Levels
In a 2017 study, 75 percent of Americans surveyed said they had experienced at least one symptom of stress during the past month. Even worse, nearly half of those surveyed also reported sleeplessness one night in the past month, and more than one-third said they felt anxious, fatigued, or irritable and angry due to stress.
Stress & Our Bodies
It begs the question: If Americans are so stressed out all the time, what’s all this stress doing to our health? While our bodies are equipped to handle stressful situations (hello, fight, or flight response), periods of prolonged stressed can negatively impact our health. From wreaking havoc on our internal organs to causing difficulty breathing, stress symptoms are detrimental to overall wellness.
