When you saw the title of this article, I bet several weaknesses immediately came to mind. Do you think you’re bad at multitasking? Is it difficult for you to stick to deadlines? Do you have trouble saying “no” to people? It’s okay. We all have weaknesses. When you learn how to set self-development goals, you can turn these things into your GR8EST strengths.

Follow these tips and watch your weaknesses transform into new amazing traits.

1. Recognize Your Weaknesses

The first step in turning your weaknesses into strengths is to recognize and accept them. Take a quick inventory of things you have difficulty with or things that you know you could be better at. Once you identify your weaknesses, you have a place to start. If you’re having trouble identifying areas you could improve upon, ask your friends or family members to give you an honest perspective. Constructive criticism is key.

If you need some help getting started on your journey once you’ve identified your weaknesses, try the 7-day challenge to kickstart personal growth.

2. Find Your Polar Opposite

Are you afraid of confrontation, avoiding disagreements, or uncomfortable situations at all costs? You’re not alone. Many people are. Find someone you trust who always voices their opinion loud and clear, in a positive way. Not someone who goes around looking to pick a fight, but someone who doesn’t hesitate to go against the grain in a meeting or social setting.

Ask them how they do it, what their thought process is, and why they do these things. They’re bound to have some good advice and shed light on a new perspective of what you believe is your weakness. Imagine yourself channeling your inner “them” next time you’re in a situation that calls for the strength you need.

3. Use Your GR8EST Strengths to Your Advantage

One of the best ways to work on your weaknesses is to capitalize on your strengths. Apply the things you’re good at to the things you need to work on. Are you bad at saying “no” to people but a genuinely kind, warm-hearted person? Chances are that the answer is yes. Try saying “no” in the nicest way possible. The more you say “no” this way, the more comfortable you will feel doing so in the future.

Or, maybe, a weakness is that you’re a perfectionist, and you can’t step away from a project until you’ve scoured over it for hours. Use this opportunity to turn your perfectionism into perfecting the art of stepping away. When you flip your perspective, things are bound to change.

4. Watch Your Transformation

Learn how to measure the progress of self-development and watch your transformation. It takes time to build any new skill, and turning weaknesses into GR8 strengths is no different. Let those close to you know the things that you’re working on, and they can provide you with words of affirmation along the way as they see you get better and better.

As you slowly work on your weaknesses, you’ll develop a sense of confidence and a new-found belief in yourself. Start small, picking one weakness at a time. As you get better and better at that one thing, go down your list and select another. As time goes on, you’ll have many more strengths in your internal arsenal.
