Every day we experience the dealings of our relationship dynamics and the fluctuations that naturally occur. If our sex lives are lacking, we might find ourselves questioning the cause and chalk it up to temporary circumstances. But, what if we’re experiencing low libido, or could it be something else?

Understanding Sexual Dysfunction

Sexual dysfunction plagues about 31% of men and 43% of women. Most of the time, it’s due to an age-related hormonal shift such as menopause or decline in testosterone. But there are many potential causes for experiencing symptoms that could indicate a low libido. Possible conditions to affect libido are related to the heart, respiratory, and digestive system, as well as medicinal interactions.

Libido is connected to both our psychological and physiological environments. Therefore, anything that might cause disruption or changes within the realm of each can potentially impact sex drive.

Symptoms and Treatment of Low Libido

Here’s what a low libido typically looks like:

  • Loss of interest in sexual activity
  • Little sexual thoughts or fantasies
  • Concern regarding changes to sexual life

If you have these symptoms, you may find it helpful to consult with a physician. If your libido is low, treatment can include lifestyle adjustments, medication changes, hormonal therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, or counseling. The approach for treatment will depend on the cause. If the cause for these symptoms is not related to libido, further examination may be necessary.

A Word from GR8NESS

If you’re struggling with the possibility of having low libido, contact your physician for an assessment and diagnosis. Whatever the reason, it can be overcome.
