When that time of year rolls around, it’s go time on pushing your resources in attempts to make the most of the season. Dollars spent on gifts, gatherings, and everything festive can be overwhelming enough, and then there’s—oh right, decorations.

Besides being energy and electricity guzzlers, decor can be expensive and time-consuming to plan and set up. With all of the commitments to consider, we need options when it comes to worrying about being the dark house on the block.

Solar-Powered Pathway Lights

Forget getting tangled literally and figuratively in the Christmas light clusters. Don't worry about how many feet you'll need to cover, replacing them when one goes out, or any other string light business. Instead, go for the flow of solar-powered pathway lights. Relatively inexpensive and just as dreamy, these lights can be set out in the front and backyard for a whimsical feel that does the trick. Not to mention, they are energy efficient for an added plus. Go for white, or mix it up with color.

Projectors

These will save you time and money, which are synonymous in the end. They do tend to vary in price, but for as little $10.00, you can purchase a projection system that wows. Light projectors are free of messy dealings and look amazing. Mix it up with placement, and combine a few for an added appeal.

Repaint Old Decor

If you're home staring at chipping, old decor that reminds you of another time, wondering how you'll spruce it up in time for company—worry not. Recycle your old holiday gear and give it a makeover. If you don't have some craft paint handy, it's surely cheaper than replacing your decor. Head to the craft store and pick up some inspiring colors, metallics, glitters, you name it. Have fun repurposing your old decorations with new experience and style.

Swap Your Bulbs

It's so easy, though not subtle, which is perfect for the overstated and decorated holidays. Make the simple swap from bright white/yellow lights to colorful festive ones. Ordinary lamps and light fixtures instantly take on the enchantment of the season with this quick change.

Ribbon

It's not just for wrapping. Never, ever underestimate the decorative power of ribbons. Not only is it easy to find a unique color and style, but ribbon can go just about anywhere. Make decorative bows or display it up to your stair rail for an opulent look. Whether you go for bright red, glittery silver, white, or blue, ribbons are an easy way to impress.

Grab the Garland

When in doubt—deck the halls (and house) with garland. Garland is your go-to for a festive feel that looks plush and inviting despite your geographical location. Twist into wreaths or around ordinary objects for an instant holiday-ready home.
