Got yourself a race to run? Life presents us with many finish lines—and whether we’re dashing, sprinting, hurdling, or enduring, one thing is for certain. Your mind plays an integral role in your ability to power through a race. Join the conversation between your brain and body by empowering yourself with words and phrases, or motivational mantras.

Mantras for the Mind and Body

Supercharged with intentions, mantras are as empowering as they are functional. Repeating mantras can help to ground you in times where motivation or energy is wavering. Yet, they can aid in concentration, providing you with something to focus on apart from the discomfort of having to exert yourself. They are an effective way to stay positive if doubt ensues. How often do you feel like doing exercise only to give it a shot and feel disconnected?

Having mantras handy is a good idea for just about anything you wish to be more present for, but especially for body movement. The mind-to-muscle connection can be fostered well by repeating mantras. If practiced with grounded intention, they can provide you with a vivid visualization that promotes endurance in the body. It’s a repetition of words, as well as a repetition of muscle memory

1 of

To Start with Tenacity

To start a race, it's always a good idea to be your own hype man. Setting an influential tone for accomplishing goals is a helpful way to propel you toward them. Before beginning a race, envision a well-prepared body. Focus on the muscles you've stretched and warmed up, and allow them to drive your body. Visualize taking your weight off of your feet, and lifting yourself into a run.

Repeat: My muscles are warm, and my feet light as air. I am the fuel and the fire.

2 of

To Continue with Courageousness

Draw upon your strong mind-body connection. Use it to remind yourself that your mind has GR8 influence on your body's limits. Think presently about increasing your speed, steadily, and maintaining good form.

Repeat: I can pick up speed and hold my form. My mind commands my body.

3 of

To Endure with Heart (Literally)

So much of endurance is mental, so a solid self-reminder can help you to persevere. For the portion of endurance that isn't mental, use the strength of your body to get through. Your heart and lungs are incredibly strong. Inhaling and exhaling to allow oxygen into your respiratory system is a way to recuperate, and maintain momentum.

Repeat: I am made to endure. I breathe to keep moving.

4 of

To Stake Your Final Claim

We often forget how strong we are, and this tends to happen a lot with fitness. Under pressure, our bodies speak out in discomfort, slightly impairing us. We can push past the extent of discomfort that determines if we'll win a race. Take a moment to remind yourself of your ever-growing power, especially when you're not feeling it.

Repeat: I am unaware of my fullest strength because it's growing right now.

5 of

And Cross the Finish Line

Nothing says cross the finish line like the drive to feel stronger. Mental and physical strength are critical for starting and completing a race. Even if you're unable to finish or come in slower than you thought. Reminding yourself of your strength helps to build strength, and maintain it.

Repeat: I am a product of my passion and my dedication to feeling and being strong.
