It’s no secret that our nails are an extension of our personality and our style. With a new decade, nail trendsetters are taking the opportunity to bring new twists to old classics and expressing themselves through bold minimalist styles. After looking around, I’ve rounded up the top trends for nail art in 2020.

#1 – The New French Manicure

This is far from your mom’s French manicure. For 2020, forget about the traditional white crescent and swap it for colorful, vibrant styles instead. You’ll see double Frenches, asymmetrical placement, side placement, and even different colored tips.

#2 – All about the Nudes

The nude trend will never disappear, that’s a fact. However, this year nudes are taking on new shades. Warm brown, terracotta, dreamy gray, rosy taupe, are all new versatile and eye-catching ways to sport nude tones. Warm brown oranges and soft pale blues will be on everyone’s manicure list this year.

#3 – Metallics Obsession

A trend that started last year, metallics, will continue to dominate our nail inspiration. Everything from rose gold to icy platinum and frozen blues will trend. To experiment within the metallics style, try choosing different frosty colors with various metallic finishes. Some will be pearlier, while others are more glittery. Hey, you can even add a matte topcoat to create your own shade of metallic.

#4 – Negative Space

These minimalistic designs never go out of style, but in 2020 we’ll be seeing them everywhere. The modern movement brings a bit of art to the nail industry. Not only do these styles save you time, but they allow you to show off your artistic skills.

#5 – Mix & Match Playhouse

If you can’t choose one style to wear this year, wear them all. The mix and match nail trend are taking over our feeds by showing us all these infinite combinations. Pair different colors or trends together for a unique look that cannot be copied by others. We would love to see the negative space meet the new French manicure trend.

#6 – Colorful Ombre

I think no one is over the ombre manicure yet, so we’re pushing this nail trend well into 2020 as well. When you have two or three shades of polish, it gives your manicure a unique look that simply captures attention. Many nail trendsetters have chosen to create a more colorful ombre effect by jumping a few shades between fingers to make the effects more noticeable.

#7 – The Return of the Matte

There’s something about a matte manicure that keeps us coming back to it. The matte top coat has become one of the must-haves for nail care lately. The truth is that a matte finish breaks the mold of what we’re used to seeing in the manicure world, which is why we keep bringing it back. Not to mention, a matte topcoat allows you to give a new face to your traditional styles.

#8 – Stick It with Nail Stickers

For those that are not so artistic, nail stickers are making a comeback giving you a chance to try DIY nail art. Choose any of the previous nail art trends and use stickers to take it to the next level. You’ll find stickers ranging from those that look like brand decals to gem-like stickers.
