Sometimes you get up in the morning and you just don’t want to get anything done that day. Motivation can be tough, and taking supplements might feel like an easy answer, but it isn’t. Supplements can be expensive and problematic, but how do you motivate yourself without them? Is natural motivation possible?
Take a Walk
One surefire method is to take a walk. It can feel difficult just to get up, but once you get moving with an activity like a walk it’s much easier to get more things done. Walking will get your blood pumping and your brain working. It’ll overcome your initial inertia telling you not to do anything. The exposure to fresh air and sunlight will help you out as well.
Set Timers
Another motivation method is to set timers. This is commonly known as the Pomodoro method. Set yourself a timer for a reasonable amount of time that you believe you can get work done in. Keep it short, such as twenty minutes, that way you won’t feel too overwhelmed by the amount of work to be done. Once the timer is up, give yourself a break. This is your reward for getting work done. After your break is up, reset your timer for another work session.
To-Do Lists
One great natural motivation method that is particularly effective is the good old-fashioned to-do list. Write down what you need to get done but be careful not to let it be an overwhelming amount of things. Put very simple things on your list as well, such as “eat breakfast.” This way you get the satisfaction of crossing items off your to-do list to motivate you into wanting to cross off even more items. The trick with your to-do list is to choose one important item to focus on at a time. The reason tasks get overwhelming and kill your motivation is because you try to do too much at once and burn out.
Give Your Brain a Break
You can’t work all the time. Which brings use to an important part of motivation: not doing anything. That’s right. In our modern society it’s easy to get caught up in the idea that we should always be busy, but we weren’t built to sustain that level of activity. Just like your phone battery gets drained and needs a recharge, so do you. So, schedule some time in your day to relax, guilt free. Watch your favorite TV show, read a book, browse social media. Whatever makes you feel happy and relaxed.
Motivation is all about mindset. You need to be able to tell yourself that you are the kind of person who gets your tasks done, and that will make you want to complete those tasks in order to continue being the kind of person you believe yourself to be. So, pause for a moment and mentally list out all the things you accomplished in the past week. There’s probably significantly more than you think.
A Note from GR8NESS
It’s easy to get caught up in attacking ourselves for not being farther along than we want and forget just how far we’ve come. Remember that you have the power to motivate yourself without supplements through natural motivation. Believe in yourself. You’re more incredible than you think.
