Self-kindness is an integral part of self-love but is often overlooked or forgotten. When you practice self-kindness, it helps you extend that kindness out to others. Most of us could benefit from being kinder to ourselves.
One way to realize when you are not practicing self-kindness is to ask yourself: Would I speak to or treat a friend like this?
But if lavishing love and affection on yourself makes you feel a little uneasy, you aren’t alone. Being kind to ourselves doesn’t seem to come naturally to many of us.
It’s important to take a step back and show yourself a little kindness, whether it’s taking some time to indulge in a mani-pedi or bubble bath, or patting yourself on the back for nailing a challenging project at work. And to do these things without a shred of guilt.
