If you start to question how attractive you are or how great your life is when you scroll through your Instagram feed and see perfectly edited photos of Influencers and makeup and beauty gurus it’s important to realize that what you see on Instagram, often isn’t real. To discover how Instagram and influencers have lost touch with reality and how you can feel confident regardless of the love that your Instagram feed gets, simply continue reading.
Their Photos Aren’t a Real Reflection of Their Lives
It’s common knowledge that supermodels such as Victoria’s Secret Models airbrush their images before they post them on Instagram. So, if models who are genetically blessed and are paid to stay fit and healthy edit their photos, it makes sense that the majority of influencers edit their photos.
If you believe that all the influencers who you follow have perfect unblemished skin, straight white teeth, and cellulite-free bodies think again. Men are not exempt from editing their image on Instagram either and many male influencers edit their photos to change their body shape and to give their muscles more definition. As well as airbrushing their skin, many influencers use apps such as FaceTune in order to make themselves look skinnier or taller.
Some influencers even edit their photos to give themselves a smaller waist in order to give the illusion that they have an hourglass figure. While some male influencers may try and edit their shoulders to give the illusion that they have strong, broad shoulders.
Another reason why Instagram photos aren’t a real reflection of an individual’s life is that most influencers often take dozens of photos to get a flattering photo and are nowhere near as carefree and relaxed about their photos as they may look in their Instagram feed.
Lastly, most influencers put far more effort into their make-up and outfits, when they plan to take photos for their Instagram feed and don’t look the way that they would if you were to bump into them on the street. As an example, influencers often take 40 minutes to perfect their make-up and to put on fake eyelashes and hair extensions before they snap a single Instagram photo.
Why do influencers spend so much time and energy on manipulating photos? The sad reason why influencers try to control every aspect of their image is that competition is fierce and every day there are new, younger individuals who want to take their place. Especially as influencers are often paid for brand endorsements and receive free products from companies and many young women and men see being an influencer as a legitimate career path.
Why You Shouldn’t Try and Copy Influencers
In recent years numerous articles have featured stories about influencers who have anxiety issues and depression as a result of having their self-worth tied up in how many followers and likes that they have. Worse yet some influencers care more about taking stunning photos than being in the moment and enjoying the events that they go to or the vacations which they take.
So, if you’ve been feeling down as a result of scrolling through your Instagram feed, remind yourself that what you’re seeing is not real and that you’re attractive just the way that you are.
