We cannot live without our smartphones, that’s a fact. But not for the reasons people believe. While yes, sometimes we need a break from social media, our smartphones hold our life. There’s an app for everything we do. Expectant moms use them to follow their baby’s growth, women with PCOS use them to track their menstrual cycle, and you probably have multiple apps for working out. Whatever you can think of, there’s an app for that.

Enter sexual health or rather sexual health apps. And no, I’m not talking about dating apps.

What Are Sexual Health Apps?

To promote sexual wellness, many smartphone users are turning to sexual health apps. By tapping into accurate, up-to-date sexual health education – not the kind you received back in high school – many users are improving their sexual health. These apps help users track their reproductive health, offer advice on how to maintain a healthy sex life, and so on.

The Rise of Sexual Health Apps

In the health category, period trackers apps, for example, are the fourth most popular app among adults and the second most popular among young women. Another great feature of health apps, in general, is the way they’re breaking the stigma.

Around 40.5% of patients talk to their doctors about their sexual life. However, 90.9% would like their doctors to ask them questions about their sexual history. And only 15% would be embarrassed if their doctors asked such questions, according to a study by the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine.

A sexual health app can help break down the shame or roadblocks, as well as making users more comfortable discussing sexual health with their doctors.

A Word from GR8NESS

When it comes to sexual health apps, I’m not 100% sure they’ll work for everyone. However, they’re a stepping stone in the right direction. As I’m writing this article, I unlocked my phone to check my apps. Currently, I have three different sexual health apps. Every day I learn something new about my sexual health, giving me more content and questions to ask my physician in our next appointment.
