Thinking of giving training according to your body type a try? Take our quiz to find out what your body type is and how to best address training.
Our bodies are so unique and incredible. While you may know of others that are similar or resemble you, no one looks exactly like you to a perfect degree, not even a twin. Despite this fact, our genetic and environmental dispositions do have some similarities that allow us to classify the majority of body types into three main distinctions.
The Origins of Body Types
Developed by Dr. W.H. Sheldon in the early 1940s, these body types are referred to as somatotypes. They are ectomorph, endomorph, and mesomorph. Each person falls relatively under one of these classifications.

Why Your Body Type Matters
Understanding where you are on this spectrum can be beneficial to executing a specific training style that is conducive to your particular fitness goals.
Assuming the goal is to achieve optimal functioning, metabolic standing, and muscular development, strategizing according to your body type can help you to reach your fitness goals with higher efficiency. It does play a salient role in your ability to achieve what is generally considered physical fitness.
However, it’s important to consider that your specific goals, lifestyle, age, and genetics can vary. You may not necessarily have the exact same results if you’re using the same technique as someone else with your body type. Everyone is different.
