Of all the pesky pains that make us feel out of control, neck pain is among the worst as it can affect everything we do. Neck pain from muscular strain is common. But, prolonged pain in the neck should be evaluated as it can be a sign of a more serious complication or injury. For minor cases, check out these easy ways to ease the tension.

So You’ve Got Neck Pain

Other common causes of neck pain are conditions like degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, cervical spondylosis, osteoarthritis, poor posture, and injury. Aside from these conditions that can lead to pain, motions like looking down at our computers and phones can stress the neck as well.

The thing to remember when it comes to caring for the neck to eliminate or reduce pain is to keep careful attention to it. In most cases, there is a fundamental weakening of the tissue in the neck. Even where an injury is to blame, a decline in muscle strength is usually the culprit that leaves an individual susceptible.

For mild neck pain, a steady application of hot and cold compresses, massage, promoting circulation and blood flow to the area, and rest can help.

When to See a Doctor

As mentioned, if pain persists for more than a couple of days, make sure to consult with and be checked by a physician to make sure you are free of a more serious complication. The same applies if the pain is a direct result of an injury such as a car accident or fall, or if the pain becomes severe.
