It’s quite incredible that we have a resource for caring for our bodies that comes with us anywhere we go: the ability to practice yoga. Yoga is known for its overall positive impact on the body, and that includes our gut. What we know about our guts is that they affect and influence how our bodies function in both big and small ways.

Yoga-Gut Connection

That said, yoga is your dream practice for a more efficient gut. Some yoga postures challenge the body in ways that can promote favorable digestion, as well as stimulate the gut in all the right ways.

Take a look at this slideshow and save these for easy access to quick gut-boosting poses that you can do anytime, anywhere. Well, you know, within reason—but who would blame you for taking care of your digestion? You don’t need that negativity in your life, friend.

Cat-Cow

Cat cow alternates spine angles to gently stretch the spine and alleviate any pressure on the lower or mid-back, as well as the shoulders. This alignment and the two alternating movements help lengthen not only the spine but intestines. This creates beneficial blood flow to the epithelial cells, which have an impact on the gut.

Bow Pose

This pose gently applies pressure to the belly, stimulating the gut and digestive system. Rocking back and forth in tandem with the rhythm of your breath circulates oxygen to the organs. It helps to increase blood flow and can aid in regulating constipation or other concerns that involve removing waste and toxins from the body.

Modify this pose by starting laying flat on your belly and  reaching back for one foot at a time, alternating.

Bridge Pose

Inversions, or poses that feature an upside-down or inverted posture, are great for expanding blood flow in ways that you're body isn't used to. This pose is a mild modification that doesn't require extensive practice or advanced flexibility to benefit from.

Child's Pose

Child's pose, otherwise known as a resting pose, is ideal for compressing and contracting the digestive organs. These motions help to awaken the organs and increase productivity.

Supine-Spinal Twist

The twisting nature of this pose, paired with the pressure being placed on the spine hits the digestive tract from multiple angles. The pose itself helps to relax muscles in the  entire body, which also impacts digestion.
