Eczema is a frustrating skin condition that leaves sufferers feeling dry, itchy, and inflamed. Also known as atopic dermatitis, it describes a condition where the skin is severely dry and characterized by small, raised bumps, and raw skin.
It can occur during childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. It may be persistent or arise periodically, susceptible to return even if it’s cleared for some time. Can the powerful anti-inflammatory turmeric help? Let us know what you think.

What Causes Eczema?
Having a family history of eczema, allergies, hay fever, and asthma may all increase the likelihood of suffering from it. Atopic dermatitis occurs as a result of having a gene variation that alters the skin’s capacity to shield itself from environmental stimulants, irritants, and allergens properly. Food allergies may also be a cause.
Can Turmeric Help?
Turmeric is beloved for the many hats it wears in natural or alternative medicine. From helping to treat inflammatory bowel disease, to improving cognitive function, its diversity in uses is clear.
Those For It
Aside from its anti-inflammatory qualities, turmeric also has antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. These functions support the argument that it could improve eczema as it may be able to destroy whatever is irritating the skin and aid in the regeneration of healthy skin. One study does show that subjects benefited from a turmeric-based cream, but it was noted that there were other herbal components to the cream.
It’s also fair to say that ingesting it as an anti-inflammatory may also contribute to the overall decrease of inflammation in the body.
Those Against It
However, there is a lack of conclusive evidence confirming that turmeric can actually help treat eczema. Turmeric has been studied adequately for its anti-inflammatory benefits. But studies specifically on its effect on eczema are limited.
Turmeric could help eczema, but cure it? Well, only science will tell.
