It is very easy for a lot of people to get caught up in getting to a certain target weight. There are several weight management options out there, and all of them promise fast results. The problem is, there are still way too many weight management trends that are dangerous and unhealthy. They need to go away for good. Below is a closer look at those unhealthy dieting trends, and why they became so popular in the first place.
Tapeworm Diet
Somehow, the tapeworm diet survived for close to 100 years. People still try it to this day, ingesting cyst pills so that tapeworms can mature and live inside the intestines. No credible medical studies show this as a valid weight management option. It’s dangerous to have tapeworms in the body, and they could potentially cause nutritional deficiencies. Not only that, but tapeworms don’t last forever, so eventually a person would gain the weight back or forced to consume more tapeworms.
Baby Food Diet
Eating baby food for at least half of the meals during the day might lead to weight loss, but it has very little to do with the food being consumed. Instead, it comes down to just not having a lot of calories. Why eat pureed food designed for babies when the same amount of calories can be consumed eating adult food? To get the same result, all a person needs to do is eat more fruits and vegetables and cut down on the amount of sodium they consume.
Military Diet
With promises of losing 10 pounds or more in a week, the military diet seems too good to be true. That is mostly because it is, since no one can live off of saltine crackers, cheese, apples and hotdogs consuming under 1000 calories a day. This is a solution for the short term only, and it’s impossible to label it as a true solution. All it does is provide a temporary fix that makes a person irritable and hungry throughout the entire time.
Faux Meat
There have been many fake, imitation meat options throughout the years, but new manufacturing methods have really turned the corner. Not only are vegans and vegetarians gravitating towards imitation meats, but those on a diet feel like it’s a healthy alternative to red meat. While eating a lot of red meat isn’t the best idea in the world, imitation burgers, for example, are not exactly the healthiest thing either. They are usually loaded with sodium, and they are highly processed to get to the flavor they have. It’s fine to indulge once in a while, but don’t automatically think that imitation meat means healthy. This form of unhealthy dieting is a very quick way to start putting on weight and not meeting any goals put in place.
