Unwanted hair is a common problem that many people want to get rid of. This is especially common in ladies and young women. However, nowadays the men have started taking part in the process and are beginning to trim, shape and shave their hair more, just like the women. It may not even be unwanted, but simply for the appeal. Unwanted hair is common on the upper lip, chin, back, legs, fingers, feet and toes. Its causes may be genetic, hormonal or medication caused. There are several unwanted hair removal methods, and they fall into three categories.
Root Hair Removal Methods
These methods ensure you remove the hair by the root. It takes weeks for regrowth and the hair grows back softer and thinner than before. One gets to enjoy smooth skin for up to 4 weeks. Methods that fall under this are:
Plucking
This is the individual removing of hair by a pair of tweezers. It is best for your eyes because of the precision it provides. It is a bit painful though.
Epilating
This involves using a hand-held device that has a head of rotating tweezers which remove hair as they run along the skin. It works well on all body parts.
Waxing
This involves applying hot or cold wax in the direction of hair growth then stripping it off with fabric once it dries. It’s good for your legs, eyebrows, under arms, upper lip and bikini. It can be messy and painful, though, and some acne creams will not allow for waxing.
Threading
This is done by twisting fine pieces of cotton thread around each individual hair and pulling the thread apart quickly, removing the hair along with it. It works best in small, delicate areas like the eyebrow and the upper lip.
Surface Hair Removal Methods
These methods involve you removing the parts of the body hair that have grown above the skin surface. It is easy to do but needs to be done often. Methods that fall under here are:
Shaving
This is removal of hair by a machine either electric or a razor. It can be dry shaving or wet shaving where you use a medium between you and the tool, like shaving cream. It is best for your face, legs, underarms and bikini area.
Depilatory Creams
This is application of a cream left on the skin for a period of time that allows you to remove the hair by gently rubbing it off. It works best on the upper lip, bikini area and underarms.
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)
This method works by concentrating light on small sections of the skin that is absorbed by the hair follicle. After absorption, the hair follicle is heated, disabling hair growth depending on growth cycle. Darker hair or paler skin makes the treatment work better. This method is best for the bikini area, underarm and upper lip. It is the longest lasting method for unwanted hair removal but requires several treatments.
