When trying to lose weight, it’s likely that you are going to want to step on the scales to track your progress very regularly. It’s recommended that to have better weight management and see the most amazing results, you should be weighing yourself LESS, or even weighing yourself without a scale altogether. Let’s discover exactly why that is.

Why You Should Throw Away Your Scales

Your weight fluctuates so much throughout the day and it has nothing at all to do with you doing something wrong, in regard to weight management. You might weigh more due to water weight, constipation, a particular time of the month, or even stress. The number on the scale is not reliable at all, particularly if you weigh yourself too regularly or at different times throughout the day. When you see a number that is much higher than what you were expecting, this puts many people into self-destruct mode. If the number is too high, you might think why bother, making you give up on your diet and gorge yourself on foods which you know are not good for you. Another reason why you should be weighing yourself without a scale is because if you are working out, you could actually gain weight even if you look better. This is because muscle weighs more than fat. If you are working out regularly, the number on the scale might read higher because of all the lean muscle you are putting on your body in all the right places.

What to Do to Track Your Progress

You are probably thinking “but without scales, how I am going to know if I am actually getting anywhere in regard to my goals and losing weight?” We all need that motivation to keep going and we all need to know that we are doing things correctly. Something that is way more trustworthy when trying to get into shape or achieve weight management is actually taking measurements of your body. You can take measurements around your stomach, your thighs, your hips, your arms and basically wherever you want. When you start to notice you are losing inches from the different areas of your body, this is more exciting and also more accurate than the number on the scale. You can also judge your progress by the way your clothes are fitting you. If you used to struggle to get into a particular pair of jeans but now, they slide on with ease, you are probably doing something right.

By eating right and doing regular exercise, you will reach your goals, but it does not happen overnight. Consistency is key so keep doing what you are doing, and you will get there. It’s much better to lose weight at a slow and steady rate, rather than doing it the wrong way and dropping the pounds unrealistically quickly. Hopefully after learning more about why the number on the scale isn’t always accurate, you now have the inspiration you needed to ditch those scales for good with a smile on your face.
