We admit, bone broth isn’t exactly the most luxurious sounding soup, but listen—bone broth has honestly got it going on. If you’re not clear on what’s inside a serving of bone broth, it’s the bones and connective tissue of an animal protein, all cooked and stewed for the sake of letting no benefits go to waste. It’s typically made from chicken, cow, or fish bones.

Consuming bone broth can be useful for your joints, digestive system, skin, and to ease that tummy ache or sore throat.

What’s in the Bones?

When animal protein sourced bones are brewed in hot water, their components become more accessible and digestible for humans. The bone is rich in calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, vitamin A, K, fatty acids, selenium, zinc, manganese, and collagen.

Heating the bone releases these contents into the liquid. Collagen contained in the bones and tissue becomes somewhat gelatin-like when cooked. This gelatin is a reliable source of amino acids or the building blocks of protein.

Why Your Body Loves Bone Broth

Bone broth is essentially everything you never saw coming about how a stew can be mega beneficial.

It Promotes Joint Support

Absorbing the nutrients from the cartilage and bones is supportive of your bones. As we age, our joints become worn out and begin to weaken. Consuming bone broth can help to lessen this over time and protect against future damage.

Provides Gut Support

Our gut function is crucial to our state of health, affecting everything from anxiety, to travel, to skin. The amino acids in bone broth can aid in the gut’s process for digestion, and by extension, those who experience digestive issues such as inflammatory bowel disease. On a lighter scale, ingesting bone broth can help with bloating and nausea.

Helps with Inflammation Reduction

The acids inside bone broth contain anti-inflammatory properties, making bone broth a suitable meal to have when experiencing internal inflammation of any digestive organs, and in general.

Speeds Up Weight Loss

Bone broth is also a friend to the weight loss community as it is high in protein, and tends to be low in calorie depending on ingredients added. One study claims that a cup of bone broth packs more protein and nutrients than one of chicken broth.

Cares for Your Skin

The collagen that is released into the mixture and absorbed is a great source of nutrients for the skin. Beauty bloggers have even sung its praises of the internet.

This pure, nourishing liquid speaks for itself in terms of earning its place as a GR8 food. And did we mention it tastes amazing with a little coconut oil?
